Colony “Nearer” is the 2nd and final studio album by the English post-punk band Joy Division, launched in the 18th of July 1980 which was two months after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis . The album was initially scheduled to be launched on 8 Could 1980. The file was at first introduced on the Factory Records label as a twelve” LP and reached #six on the Uk Albums Chart. It also peaked at #3 in New Zealand in September 1981. It claimed the number one particular slot on NME Album of the Year, and was included in the e book 1001 Albums You Ought to Hear Prior to You Die. The album cover was developed by Martyn Atkins and Peter Saville, with photography from Bernard Pierre Wolff. The photograph on the cover is of the Appiani household tomb in the Cimitero Monumentale di Staglieno in Genoa, Italy, by Demetrio Paernio.
